I just converted my Loboy to 12V with a 1 wire mini alternator that Chipmaker told me about from DB Electrical- Chevy Mini Alternator Denso Street Rod Race 1-Wire 12180. I already had a new 12V battery so it was about $70 for the alternator, $35 for the brackets from Steiner and $7.00 for the resistor.
Works amazing, Glad I did it. Cranks like all get out!

A lot of my trouble with 6v was probably self in imposed. Id forget and leave it on high charge and cook the battery. But the 12v is so much more convenient and easy-to-use what really got me thinking about it. I like the idea if the mini alt but I'm so use to the big Delco one wires that what everything elce I have has on it. I'm just concerned about the amount of room the big alt will take up.

It is not very big at all...it is like 30 some odd amps and it is small enough that it fits under the hood without any complications and not visible. It isn't a great picture but you can see how large it is and it is hidden when the hood is on. My problem was that I couldn't put on the pull rod/momentary switch on my starter which would have been even more money and my starter was abused by 12V jumping for 40 years so I had to go with a solenoid and key start along with the alternator. I was undecided as well, but I had a 12V battery already so I took the plunge and am happy as heck about it.

So I guess what I should have asked frist off is. Is one choice better than. The other, between a mini and standard Delco one wire? Has anyone had trouble with the mini alternator? I really like how much room there is around a mini, but I'm more comfortable with the big Delco just bc iv been around them, and you can get them fixed any ware. The only problem I have with the big Delco are they take up a lot of room. Idk why iv convince myself they take up to much room and may cause it to get to hot.

Either alternator will fit under the hood. I have a 62 amp Delco single wire alternator on my standard Cub.

I use my Cub to jump start other tractors that have been sitting. The 62 amp alternator works great.

I have mowed for hours with my standard Cub. No problems with the alternator heating up.
