Anyway to tell how old my mower is? Just curious what years did they make them?

Re: 22 sickle mower
The first ones for a Cub came out in 1947 and I'm sure they probably produced then up until the end.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: 22 sickle mower
Hi,
I think IH made the Cub 22 mower all the years they made the Cub.
The first mowers were blue, then they changed to yellow, probably when the Cubs were made yellow and white, in 1964, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else knows.

Re: 22 sickle mower
Hi,
If the mower is off the tractor, try sliding the rear shield and mounting ahead on the long tube, and look at the side of the pulley hidden by the shield. There might be paint there on the pulley, clean off the old grease and dirt.

Re: 22 sickle mower
1st ones were only 4 1/2' long, then after a few years they were 5 ft, you can date it some what by the mounting brackets as they changed a few times

The pittman also changed from a bushing to a bearing.

Re: 22 sickle mower
I do know that the cutter bar itself on my Cub-22 (year unknown) is exactly the same as the cutter bar on my 1941 IH #9 high-gear horse drawn mower. All they would really need to fabricate is a way to mount it to the Cub.

Re: 22 sickle mower
A six month old thread, but I have the same question about the date of the Cub 22. I disassembled the flywheel pulley shield and found a cast mark on the rear of the flywheel pulley. The mark is 8-11L. Could be B-11L, I suppose. Does anyone know if this will date the mower?

Re: 22 sickle mower
Also this talk about 22 mower's has me thinking that needs to be my next piece of equipment. In the midwest (Ohio) area what do 22 mowers that are in working condition run?

Re: 22 sickle mower
Hi,
That is the casting code, like I wrote to you before about. It would be 8 11 L. It shows that the pulley was made on August 11, 1965.
L is the code for 1965.
Below is the table from TM Tractor showing the codes.

Thanks, Glen, sorry for my memory lapse - getting old, I guess...
