1969 IH Cub with Belly Mower - not sure make

Postby 4dogs » Tue May 02, 2017 6:10 pm

I'm new here. I just purchased a 1969 IH Cub at an auction this weekend. The tractor starts right up and drives well. It has a belly mower with one center spindle and a bush hog type two blade assembly. Does anyone know what model , what make the mower deck it is? I need to get a drive belt. (Not sure how to post a photo)

Are there any good links for parts, manuals, etc ? Helpful hints? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. A couple more posts and you can access (free download) the manuals located at the "QUICK LINKS" TAB at the top left corner of the page. There you'll find manuals for IH and aftermarket mowers available to view and download. If you post a picture someone will probably be able to identify it.

Welcome to the Forum. If the two angle iron braces that run from the deck back to the final drives are straight, it is probably an IH/Danco C-2. If the two braces angle outward, it is probably a Woods. Those are the two most common brands, but there are other possibilities. After your second post you have access to the PDF manuals section which is under quick links upper left. There you can find parts, owner's, service, and implement manuals.

Hi,
There are several brands of mowers that were made for the Cub. Look and see if you can find any ID sticker or plate on the mower. There were also different widths.
The experts on here recommend that people read the Cub owner's manual, it has much info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. They have many years of owner's manuals on this site. Here is the 1965 Cub owner's manual below, it is the same style as a 1969 Cub.
It has a table of contents on page 1, makes it easier to use on the internet. :)

Your pictures show it's an IH/Danco C-2 mower.

My Danco/IH C2 takes a B136 belt. They're readily available at the local NAPA and even cheaper on Amazon if you can wait for shipping.

I'm not sure of NAPA's terminology, but make sure you get the "Heavy Duty" belt from them...the correct width, too. One time I bought the correct length, but narrower...worked OK, but didn't last as long.

B136 sounds like GATES number, in that case the letter B indicates a 5/8 belt width.

Questions: How is the deck spindle pulley supposed to be retained on the shaft? Mine was just sitting on there. I couldn't really tell by the photos in the IH Danco C-2 Mower manual. Also, where can I find a good parts manual? Thanks.
