fixed Drawbar
Hello all, I am a new cub owner and need some help to make the tractor useful. I have a spring harrow, but do not have the drawbar for the tractor.
Does anybody have a drawing for a fixed drawbar for the cub? Or dimensions pls.
Regards,
Tom

You can probably get some ideas from TM tractor's website. Link at the bottom of this page. Also place a "wanted" classified add in THE VINE.

Or for $145 + shipping, you could order one with brackets from JP Tractor salvage (site sponsor). Or watch craigslist and pick up a $300-400 parts Cub, remove the drawbar, sell parts, and profit.

Re: fixed Drawbar
Hi,
Here is a page from a Cub owner's manual showing the IH drawbar.
Below that are pics from TM Tractor of a drawbar.
The drawbar is held on the tractor with 4 of the IH tapered head bolts. Below is a listing for them at TM Tractor, if you don't have them.
I don't know what year Cub you have, the experts on here recommend that people read the Cub owner's manual, it has much info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. They have many years of owner's manuals on this site. Here is a 1955 owner's manual below.

Re: fixed Drawbar
Tom, The draw bar is pretty heavy stock and both ends have a 90* twist in them. Unless you have access to a big torch or forge, I don't think you could manage the bends.

Re: fixed Drawbar
Hello all,
Thank you for the information. You are right it is indeed a heavy piece of work. I did finally manage to find a tractor junk yard here in Wisconsin that has three of them. While I do have access to heavy machining and welding. I think buying an original is a better idea. I expect I will be here many times in the next few years as I put my cub to work on my vegetable farm.
Thank you again for the help.
Regards,
Tom

Re: fixed Drawbar
Make sure you get the rectangular mounting plates (a right and a left) and the tapered shoulder bolts if they have them.

Hello Bob,
Yup, going to look at it Thursday or Saturday. Also getting the rockshaft and rockshaft bar. I already have the Field Harrow, I just need to be able to use it. Next is getting a plow. Will be rebuilding the electrical harness this winter.
Thanks for the warning on the plates. I did see some out there with out them. The parts man even asked to make sure I did not have a low boy. Seems like a good guy.

Tom

Re: fixed Drawbar
Yep, lo-boy uses a different set of brackets from the standard cub. Drawbar is the same either way. Sounds like you're in good hands with your parts guy.

On a humorous note, I took one off last year to pull my finals on my refurbishment of my loader tractor, and do some work on them..,I went to put it on a few weeks ago and it had grown 1/8th of an inch or more...Its still off.( need bigger hammer )..Hope it doesn't grow any longer... Dave

Mine has been sprung too wide since I got my tractor. The previous owner drilled out the slotted holes in the drawbar so he could bolt it directly to the finals without the drop spacers. I bought a set of brackets and I managed to draw it back together a little bit with a couple of heavy duty ratchet straps, but I was worried about breaking them and taking a drawbar to the face. The things PO's do...

Oh that wouldn't be good...Worse than getting kicked by a mule.....Mine was perfectly factory...The PO is a good forum member...It just got a mind of its own...One of these days I'll get to it...Torches, hammer and chain tuggers should do it...

Re: fixed Drawbar
Must of had an impact wrench! That would of been a lot of hard turning with a box end wrench. Of course any imaginative mechanic would've used a stack of washers on each side between the drawbar and final.Urbish wrote:..........
