The pressure cap seals below the overflow tube on the neck.

Yikes! It is a 7 pound cap that's on there now! Bill, you must be psychic or something! So, that's raising the internal pressure and causing the blowout...makes sense. Can I find a non-pressure cap at NAPA or other auto parts store or is there anything special about what goes on a Cub? Man, I'm really glad I asked about this.

You can order one from one of our site sponsors (TM Tractor or Hamilton Bob's). Steiner Tractor carries them too.

In looking the cap up I do see where 7 pound caps are used on older Cubs "when a pressurized system is desired" So, when is a pressurized system desired?

I believe a long time ago, someone said if you have a pressure cap and want a non-pressure one, you can cut(?) the spring loaded part out. I don't have one to look at, but until you order a new one, that might work.

This is all very interesting because most of what's out there does seem to be pressure caps so there must be lots of them in use. But I'm definitely going to go non-pressure to see if that doesn't correct this and I'd be willing to bet that it will.

I appreciate that link. No moving parts! And I guess the thing about that is that the system doesn't have a chance to build pressure, so less coolant is forced out. We'll see how this works out...

Changing to a non-pressure cap will not keep coolant from blowing out the overflow. Some state that it will make it worse (could be). Not overfilling it is the only fix.
