No. 12 Rotary Weeder Attachment

Postby Brandon Webb » Sat Apr 08, 2017 6:27 pm

Finally got my rotary weeder attachment finished and mounted today. Had to fab the mounting bracket based on pics from the manual but everything else is original. Can't wait to try it out in some corn.

Kind of a challenge to get everything tight without using the jam nuts isn't it?

It actually tightened with the stock bolts. I am going to get the correct 2 inch bolts with jam nuts just didn't have any at home yesterday.

Is there a way to get some video of this working? It looks great but I can't see how it is used in cultivation.

I would like to see a video as well. It seems odd to mount something that narrow to a tractor...

It's my understanding it was supposed to work like a one row rotary hoe. Dig in very shallow, loosen the soil only an inch or so deep. It was supposed to get very small weeds, loosen the soil after a packing rain so seedlings could emerge, etc.

Somewhere, I have an article from 1948/49 or so where ag engineering students at NC State Univ. (College back then) were experimenting with one of these in tobacco. According to the article it was pretty successful at close-cultivating young tobacco plants.

Let me figure out how to post a video. It works well I used it again this year. It runs right overtop your corn and the sweeps clear the rest of the row and wheel tracks. You don't have to aim to cultivate. You can go in 2nd gear and it doesn't up-root any plants it's pretty amazing how it works.

Very nice fab job, Brandon. Let us know when you get a video posted.

BTW: I really like your Cub as well. Lots of aged metal on that one; good patina.
