Engine parts

Postby Ken (48 Cub) » Fri Mar 03, 2017 4:49 pm

I was in the local tractor place today (Jacobi) asking about C60 engine parts for a rebuild. I was quoted around $600 for a complete kit that included pistons, rings and crank shaft bearings.

That sounded high to me. What are some other resources you have used and what was the cost?

I don't buy kits, specially from unknown sources, I buy needed US manufactured parts from big name companies.

I source my parts from several locations; Case/IH, auto parts stores, and advertisers on this board.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Since cubs are not sleeved, but need to be bored if the cylinders are worn I get my kits from the machine shop that does the engine boring, turns crank, etc.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I had new .020 piston, rings, bored .020, main bearings, turned crank .010, cleaned block, cleaned head, decked head. They reassembled cam, lifters, crank, oil pump, add rear seal and I got the block back. $1500. So $600 - $700 is about right. Don't let them put the front cover and pulley on. Some machine shops don't know about the timing mark on the governor gear. But I also stripped engine completely down then took it in. I also agree with let them do the ordering.

If cheap is the way to go, then don't ignore this site. Cheap does not mean high quality.
