Cleaned up a air cleaner today and discovered it had a gasket on the main body where the main body connects with the bowl. The parts manual doesn't show a gasket and none of the parts suppliers show any. Any ideas out there?

Re: Gasket for Air Cleaner
I have them on mine. When the originals fail, I jam a very thin piece of gasket paper in between the air filter housing and cup. I then remove that pattern that was made and carefully cut it out. Good to go.

An o-ring that size would be nice. A savvy person could market these to the Cub crowd.

Re: Gasket for Air Cleaner
If the bowl is filled to the proper level no gasket is needed.

Re: Gasket for Air Cleaner
Yes it's a year old post, but i just tore my air cleaner apart, november 52 cub, and it has (ok, had... i tore it up taking it a part, need to make a new one now...) a gasket where the oil cup meets the main body. Came here looking to see if there's a way to take out the innards of the filter and it appears there isn't, soak with some solvent then simple green i guess. What an amazing place to learn about these little beauties!

I recommend kerosene or diesel fuel.

Re: Gasket for Air Cleaner
i keep two squirt bottles of kero just for that purpose. Then simple green does a nice job washing off the kero prior to a wipe with lacquer thinner prior to painting! thanks Don!

Re: Gasket for Air Cleaner
So... not only did my original 52 cub air cleaner have the oil cup gasket, the tube was so bent and damaged i bought another air cleaner on ebay last week, it just came, and i'm cleaning it up, and lo and behold.... another oil cup gasket! So, it looks like i'll be making a new gasket for when i re-assemble the air cleaner and paint it. I can only guess it's there to keep the oil from weeping out around the lip and getting the bottom of the air cleaner all goopy with dust and grime once there's a sticky surface to it. I repair clocks as a hobby, and there are wells on the bearings and jewels that contain the oil and keep it from spreading because oil will either wick or wax... wicking removes the oil from the bearing and causes it to run dry and damage parts, waxing means it will slowly solidify, which is actually better for a clock, because if a clock doesn't run, it won't wear out...
