Farmall Cub

So I came across this the other day and it has me intrigued.

If I got this wagon with a cylinder and a bypass bock for the touch control system with the proper open center valve. Would the touch control system have enough psi to raise the wagon with a decent load.

Would this work. A 4X8 wagon seems just about the perfect size for the cub. I don't think I'd load it to capacity though.

A 4" hydraulic cylinder at 1200 psi would raise (move) about a 15,000 lb. load.

I don't know how much weight you plan on hauling in the wagon towed with a Cub. You could easily put more weight in the wagon than the Cub could safely handle.

If you don't need all that capacity, Northern Tool has some Farm-Tuff brand wagons that aren't bad for the money. They have running gears for which you can build your own rack. I think mine is model 02813, not sure. I did a few modifications when I put it together that make it work better and should last a lot longer. They also have a trailer that comes with a dump bed.

Oh yeah, what this translates to in dumping a trailer depends on the geometry of the dumping mechanism.

Yes, a bypass block and the appropriate valve would be able to operate the cylinder on this type wagon. You would probably need to use a 2-way cylinder to keep from running the hydraulic reservoir empty, may need to add another reservoir.

Yes, ideally about 15,000 lbs when the cylinder is aligned with the direction of travel. Often the cylinder will be acting at a pretty acute angle at first when the wagon is down, creating a significant mechanical disadvantage. Taking a wild guess at what a worst case angle would be and throwing a safety factor in for good measure, a working capacity of 1-2,000 lbs sounds reasonable. Still more than a Cub probably ought to be towing.

It's a nice size trailer, though. I've been looking for something like it as a general odd job trailer. Just about right for carting fence and other project materials and tools around the farm. I wouldn't ever foresee having it fully loaded.

Just for argument's sake, what is the capacity of the 100 spreader? That was intended from the beginning to be towed by a Cub.

It may be a handful for the cub if the manufacturer is stating a 20-35 hp tractor is the target market.

Yes, it will lift with the bypass block and an appropriate control valve. It'll need an auxiliary reservoir to have enough volume for a 4" cylinder. Even 2-way, the cylinder won't feed enough fluid back into the TC to replace what it takes to extend the cylinder from the piston end.

In the Ozarks, consignment and farm auctions frequently have wagons, 2 wheel trailers, and running gears for wagons for sale. Inexpensive compared to something fresh out of the factory.

Suggest making a list of things you want your wagon or trailer to do. Then consider all options.

Backing up 4 wheeled trailers can be an unbelievable difficult task for an inexperienced tractor operator.

Yes while not my uncle (he can back three four wheeled wagons hooked up in tandem together) I can back a single 4 wheeled wagon. At least I used to be able to. Should come back to me with a few tries.

I like not having weight on the toung. If you need to unhook it and let it sit for a while it's not a big deal.

The running gear came from Pioneer Farm Equipment. We scratch-built the bed. No real plans. Used 8 foot 2 X 10's for the runners and 2 X 4's for the cross pieces. 5/4 decking boards for the deck.

Her is another wagon that works good for a cub. It is 5ftx9ft.
It is built with Chevy Citation axles and has a spindle 5th wheel.

I've been thinking about buying one of these from Tractor Supply https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/produ ... _vc=IOPDP1
It might be a little small though, but I know my cub could handle it then.
