APhoto or two Cub Baby Lanz.

Postby Patbretagne » Mon Sep 19, 2005 1:40 am

A Photo of Cub Baby powering Lanz to help regain compression.

and the famous air intake valve dismantled and upside down. The disk sits over the round orifice held lightly in place by the 4 springs in the aluminium carrier

Whilst discovering the real tractor underneath all the grease and crud, I have come across the Logo of Heinrich Lanz cast into a large number of pieces.
Interesting to cogitate on who chose this design first because it is very close to the logo that is often depicted in RED rather than blue?

and whilst on logos and stampings on castings here is another that I found. I thought he was dead by the time this tractor was built?

Best wishes and my apologies for mixing paint colours on the CUB board, I won't do it again. Pat

Pat, Great pics! And some very interesting discoveries.
Do you think we should appoint a committee to look into the past history of Mr. Harvester? Nah! Larry

Didn't I read some where that parts previously intended for the milatery were assembled into tractors in europe. Could be that. Then again it could have been a trick of one of the workers.

Pat:

Hope this works better... I sort of fixed the links.

When using the [img] tags, the url must point to a .jpg or other image file. Pointing it to a page, will not work. That is why the first link worked and the other 3 did not.

If you click on the edit button in your post you will see what I mean.

btw...

I think the logo is kinda neat and reflects the initials of the manufacturer. I seriously doubt that it was meant as confusion.

As you are probably aware, artisans, furniture and cabinet makers, potters and other craftsmen were know to make their "chop" on their work to identify who made it. Those who could read, usually used their initials and depending on their view could make them simple classic letters or if they were more on the creative bent would use stylized versions.

They were called 'chops' cause they were usually imprinted with a chopping motion such as with a chisel, knife or other pointy instrument...

As for the second imprint - well, much like any government organ... all things produced during the 3rd Reich bore it's mark. An unfortunate happenstance of the political mind.... .. historically it may be of some importance in time, especially as much of this stuff has been lost over the past 6 decades.

Nice job on the story Pat, l'ecriture c'est tres bon! I hope that is right.. I is a practissin... :!:

Rudi,
Thanks for fixing the links, I was being a bit wooly headed mixing up address and location.

Yes chops and 3rd Reich, unfortunately this mark is generally hidden under the air intake valve casting, as you say of interest.

Unfortunately I didn't put the photo of the Cub/Lanz in my original "Story", it has lost a bit of it's impact with the messing about with the photos/img/location/address.
Tant Pis, but thanks for your appreciation of the story
Pat
