Bench Testing Touch Control
Is there any way to bench test a touch control unit? I bought a parts Cub that has TC. The engine is seized and I'd like to transfer the system to my working Cub to replace my manual lift. I plan to drain the reservoir to see what, if anything, comes out of it. I'd like to figure out if it needs to be rebuilt before I take the time to mount it on my working tractor. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is but it's not affordable. You'd need another source of hydraulic pressure, which could be an electric pump or another tractor with hydraulic remotes.

Ralph used to bench test them with air, but I don't remember how. Hopefully he will see this.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Bench Testing Touch Control
Air pressure into the smaller opening where the tubes to the pump, go, should cause some movement, when the control valve is moved. (Not at the same pressure as the fluid , so movement will be slower.)

Okay. I wasn't sure if there's an easy way to spin the gear on the pump (with a drill or something) to check function. I guess I'll try air pressure in the small port and if nothing looks amiss, I'll go ahead and mount it up.

I test them with air on every one I work on, a rubber tip air blower works well to seal up the pressure port, you can hold it tight while changing position of the control valve with the other hand

Thanks guys. I pulled the drain plug last night and fairly clear and appropriate viscosity hydraulic oil came out. I'm hopeful that this unit is workable. I will test with air.

They are pretty simple to rebuild, you would be better off to go ahead and rebuild it so you know how the seals/gaskets are before you install it and find out it needs a rebuild.

Agreed. There's plenty of info in the How To section on rebuilding both T/C units and pumps.

Yes, and I just watched the Steiner Tractor Video on the rebuild. Regarding the video: If it's easy enough for a young lady in a pink sweater to do it (with all the fasteners clearly pre-loosened and all the difficult tasks like cleaning, prepping, and painting edited out of the video), it should be no problem for me.

Haha, it will take you longer to clean it than to rebuild it. You'll sleep better at night knowing you rebuilt it before putting it on and thinking somethings wrong with it

Re: Bench Testing Touch Control
Simple to rebuild unless you take it apart and set it aside for a year and a half. Somehow the parts? seem to forget where they go.
