I am going to look at a cub to buy wed. The gentleman i talked to says it has the "usual cub transmission noise".
What is normal noise for these old cubs? In all gears? Groaning sort of?

Mine sounds like a jar of marbles. I thought that is normal with the square cut gears. half gear oil and half STP helps.

Mine also has the low growl and occasional squeal. Everyone ive seen has had the same sounds.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

If a tranny is freshly rebuilt, will it be quiet? Noiseless?

I put 3 out of the 5 bearings new in Arnold a few months ago, it's as loud as it was before I put them in it. Both our Cubs tranny's have noise, not to loud that somethings wrong though.
