My fast hitch pins have been replaced by bolts by PO and I looked online for new pins for my FH on my 1948 cub.
The information I have so far is the lower left pin (part # 518505R1) is a 3/4" X 3" PIN. This part has been superseded by Case part # 866240677 This part is over $30. Is there some reason I can't just buy a steel clevis pin of the right dimensions?
Is it right to assume that I can also just buy a clevis for the lower right pin also? ( part # 520162R1)
and for the top right pin? ( #520110R1) (I have this but there are two or three stress cracks in it)
Is there something special about the steel used for these pins?
John

Re: Fast Hitch pins
I don't think it is THAT special. A good quality generic pin should be OK, maybe not some of the ungraded stuff you might find in some hardware stores. The originals have some weird 1/16 inch length increments, generics probably only 1/2 inch increments. You can use the next longer size or go way long and cut to length. You are probably aware that the top right pin has 2 holes. You can probably get a long one and drill a second hole at the shorter position.

McMaster-Carr has a good selection of clevis pins.

Don & Jim,
Thanks for the feedback. New pins are in the mail ( or will be within 3 days).
My 520110R1 is pictured below, with the stress cracks.

Re: Fast Hitch pins
I would grind that paint off and make sure those are cracks, it's very odd to me to have that many that close together without a break. May just be wear marks.

Chipmaker,
I have to admit I'm surprised too at the cracks. I took some pictures for you of the pin from various angles.
I wonder about the stress on this piece to cause this. All in all I rather have the pins and bolts being the weakest link rather than a casting.
Cleaning up the fast hitch linkage, I found this set screw embossed "F C" for the collar on the link.

Are those all cracks or just the one at the hole?

Chipmaker,
They look like cracks to me. I will send you the pin after the replacement has arrived.

Re: Fast Hitch pins
The one at the hole looks to me like a crack but the others look like wear marks. But then, I'm just looking at the pictures not the part. Doesn't matter, the one at the hole does it in anyway.

Re: Fast Hitch pins
Retirement ceremony was held today at Parlow Mill Farm to honor the service of the recently retired pins.
An photo of the retired pins is given below (not all of which I can blame on PO)
