Tranny Rattles

Postby falcon » Tue Nov 08, 2016 3:16 pm

I have a 50 cub. With clutch depressed tranny is quiet. Put in gear and let the clutch out it rattles somewhere inside the tranny area. Runs and drives good otherwise. Any ideas?

Following this one... my 55 does it too but I can pull up the clutch pedal (just a tick) and it stops...

You might want to pull off the trans cover and check for a loose shifter fork. If you've never had the cover off this is probably a good idea anyways to see the condition of stuff in there and to make sure that the oil passages to the front and rear bearings are clear.

My guess is the throw out bearing. Mine did the same thing until I got the clutch set correctly. It too had a "sweet spot" in the pedal travel that would make it stop rattling. Adjust the fingers and pedal free play correctly and I bet the rattle stops.

Hi,
There is supposed to be a spring on all 3 pedals to pull them up against the platform.
jljmonky, if you can pull the clutch pedal up by hand, it sounds like the spring is gone, or the pedal is tight moving and needs oiling where the parts go into the clutch housing, to free it up.
Here is a pic of the spring below, and a new one at TM Tractor. :)

With the tranny in neutral and the clutch engaged, does it still rattle?

Just rattles when it is in gear with the clutch engaged. I have had the shifter off. No problem.
