Front wheel bearings and seals.

Postby Cub driver » Tue Nov 01, 2016 3:23 pm

Pulled the front wheels today to repack the bearings but the seals were non-existent. Does anybody have good part numbers for the bearings and seals. I'd like to get them locally from NAPA or Tractor supply etc to save shipping and to get the cub back up sooner.

Is it not possible for the parts stores to take the IH part number and cross reference it?

if you are not familiar with these the seal will stay on the spindle as it is pressed on behind the bearing, so when you pull the hub the seal is not in it, the seal is made from leather, seal #is 6312

Upon closer inspection after cleaning the hub, there is a metal sleeve in it that was damaged, here's a couple photos. Are these available as well?

I've checked the sponsor links below, but don't find them. Where are they available?

Yes, it is also available at TM Tractor:

Here is a general bit of advise: It is better to get the answer to that sort of question before you take a chisel to the old part.

There are pin holes rusted thru that sleeve that aren't really visible in the photo. It wasn't re-useable anyway.

Many parts that aren't reusable become repairable when no replacement is available.

Please don't take this reply the wrong way, it is great that you can get parts for such an old tractor, But.
the prices shown for those wheel bearings is in my opinion very high. $30.00 for a bearing and you don't even get the race? I can't imagine that a suitable replacement can't be found at a bearing shop or NAPA. I'm just sayin

I guess you haven't been buying parts for anything else lately. You can try NAPA. They are often a good source.

By the way, I also checked Applied Bearing. They were higher.
