Reclamation of a 65 IH Cub
Reclamation is the act of returning something to a former, better state.
I believe a total restoration would be beyond my budget so I will do my best to make it mechanically safe and sound
I would like to use this thread as documentation of the work and effort I will be Investing into my recently purchased
1965 IH Cub serial # 225355 J. Also included will be money invested.
Some of this will be repeats of my first couple of post. I beg your indulgence .
10/07/2016
purchased cub for $150
10/09/2016
changed oil and filter / gasket for fuel sediment bowl . cost $35
Purchased 2 used 8.3 x 24 tires . cost $50
Had 1 rear mounted including new tube and bought used 4.8 x 12 and new tube. cost $80
New 12 volt battery @ $82
So far I've gotten the Cub Started and running pretty good
Having clutch problems still. I've tried all of your suggestions but PP and clutch still stuck to flywheel
10/14/2016
bought 1970 model IH cub serial # 236306 J @ $100
Battery not charging .
I've removed the bad voltage regulator
replaced it with one from the other tractor and replaced all terminals
I polarized the generator and now it's charging
10/16/2016
purchased belly mower @ $225
I've drained and replaced all fluids
greased all fittings
next....
splitting the tractor to free up the clutch

I'm liking the golf cart steering wheel on Cub #2! That clipboard would come in handy for something. Is it a "Club Cub"?

Re: Reclamation of a 65 IH Cub
Very nice finds. Although those tractors will need some work, those prices are unheard of for a Cub......especially a "later model" . Around here people would be so insulted at those prices, they would chase you off with a shotgun. You won't buy a non-running Cub around here for anything less $400.......and you've got to find the right ones to get that kind of deal. Don't believe me.....there is a Farmall on craigslist now that doesn't run and looks terrible. A Super A I believe.....they want around $3,000 for it. haha.

Thanks for the info AL Farmall Boy
I guess I was real lucky finding these 2 , both within a mile or so from the house
going this weekend to see about a back rim posted on craiglist for $40.
If it's in good shape i'll pick it up. it's 75 mile away, so i'll be looking for more cub stuff along the way

Re: Reclamation of a 65 IH Cub
Clutch kit came in yesterday.
Installed it today
took 3 hours to split the tractor and install new parts.
then trouble set in. Could not get it to go back together.
Took a little break to relax a bit.
Got it back together in an hour.
Will test drive it tomorrow morning

Congrats on acquiring your Cubs and welcome to the MCC (Multiple Cub Club). Not sure I want to know how much I have spent down thru the years...but, thanks for documenting your Cub reclamation.

Re: Reclamation of a 65 IH Cub
I hope this isn't too late, but don't forget to grease that throwout bearing! It should have actually been soaked in regular/cheap grease in a ziplock bag overnight, but if you didn't it's too late.
Also, if the pressure plate fingers need adjusting, that is covered here in the CBOK. (link: http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=60)

Re: Reclamation of a 65 IH Cub
Well everything didn't quite work out because the yoke and pivot pin were rusted together.
reinstalled using old throw out bearing and with a call from mvhighcrop I was able to get clutch working properly.
Thanks Mr. Buddy.
Will order new yoke and pin from Tm tractor and have them on hand should any problems arise in the future.
Installed aftermarket starter switch. A bit to large for hole, so had to do a little modification , but on the button itself. Works.
Now to mount the belly mower and cut some grass

Hi,
You didn't say if the clutch disc was stuck to the flywheel, or the pressure plate fingers were adjusted too low.

Lol, yea, decided to use my real name
Glen wrote:Hi,

When I unbolted the flywheel from the pressure plate it all came loose.
I could have probably bolted it all back together and it may have worked.
But since I had the new parts, I changed them. Old parts still look good so they went into the box the new ones came in.
They will be held in reserve.
LRiddle wrote:I was wondering the same. Did you get it figured out?
I could see it releasing as I loosened the bolts in the pressure plate. At a point I could have just tightened
everything back up and put it all back together. But being as green as I was, decided not to take the chance.
Anyway , I have a spare clutch kit handy.
And everything working properly , gave it a workout today. Moved a camper on the property today in an area
that was to confining for my van to maneuver . And moved a trailer of salvaged barn beams
