Newbie here pto plus fasthitch

Postby Jerry's cub » Tue Oct 18, 2016 3:51 pm

I just purchased a 1955 cub this machine does not have a pto but it does have a fast hitch. My question is can I add a pto with the fast hitch on the machine as appears like it cud be in the way of the pto. Tnx fer any response.

Yes, it can be added. But if you're planning on using a mower, the mower has to be for a fast hitch equipped tractor

Yes you can run a sickle mower with it, but you will want to have the fast hitch held in the up position. There is a hold up bar for that purpose, but it can be held up with something else. You will also find it handy to have something to hold the sickle bar up while using the fast hitch. There was also a plate made for that purpose. The flywheel bracket that bolts to the final was also changed for the fast hitch, but you can use the regular if you have too. As is(not exactly straight when mounted) or modify it

Hi,
Welcome to the website. Here are pages from the Cub parts book, so you can see the parts you need, if the Cub has never had a PTO, and you want to put one on it. The 2nd page explains what the parts on the 1st page are.
You need parts numbers 3 - 20 in the pic. That is the PTO assembly, and all the parts for the PTO shifter. You need number 49 if the shaft is the newer shaft that uses a snap ring at that place, some shafts did not use snap ring 49.
There should be a plug in the transmission case where the shifter goes. You have to remove that to put the shifter in.
The 3rd link is from the Cub service manual, and shows the PTO put together. Click on the pics makes them bigger. :)

Not sure if this one ever did right now it has plate over that area. Thank you fer all the content, I assumed I could just remove the plate and install a pto. It just appears like the fast hitch wud interest with the pulley.

Hi,
Yes, a PTO can be put in, Cubs came with or without a PTO. I have a Fast Hitch and the PTO works with it, not all implements are made to work with a Fast Hitch, some are only for a Fast Hitch.
The Cub 22 mower works with a Fast Hitch, but it's supposed to have a different rear bracket than the first Cub 22 mowers had.
The mowers had the right bracket after the mid 1950's when the Fast Hitch came out, I think I have read.
If the Cub has never had a PTO, you need to look and be sure there is a PTO pilot bushing in the end of the long clutch shaft.
Here is the bushing at TM Tractor. :)

I suppose it would be wishful thinking that you might still have the mower and will part with it. I have 68 Low-Boy I am trying to find a 42 mower for.
Thanks
Bruce
