Error in Manual? - 59CF-1 Finish Mower

Postby Urbish » Mon Oct 03, 2016 9:06 am

I have a 59CF-1 Mower on my 1948 Cub (non-fast hitch). The mower drive belt decided it wasn't willing to put up with my abuse anymore and nearly destroyed itself last weekend (with only the outermost cords holding it together). I looked in the manual and it specified a Woods p/n 1469 which cross-references to a B133. Well, shame on me for not measuring the old one first (or researching on this forum) because the correct belt is a Woods 4152 (B210 - ~213" long). So the one I was patiently waiting to receive in the mail was only 77" too short.

I have a B210 on order and it should be here tomorrow. Is this a glaring error in the manual or am I missing something?

59CF-1 is a mower for a Fast-Hitch tractor. There is a roller chain from the PTO down to another shaft where the driving belt pulley is mounted. The 59C-1 is the similar mower for non-Fast-Hitch tractors. The driving pulley is mounted directly on the PTO, using a longer belt. The 59C-1 manual calls for a 4152 (B210) belt.

Yes, I have the jackshaft setup that you describe, except that the PO replaced the sprockets & chain with regular sheaves and another belt to go between the jackshaft and the PTO. A discussion on that matter was had on here 2.5 years ago with several pictures of my setup. http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=83466

Since I do not have FH, maybe I'll just remove the sheaves from the jackshaft but retain the mule drive. One less belt to slip... Regardless, I'll make it work.

EDIT: In hindsight, my mower is mounted way forward. If I move it rearward so that the rear tires just clear the deck, I should be able to loop the longer belt all the way up to the PTO sheave.

My B210 belt arrived yesterday. I have attached some photos of it installed. It fits pretty good! I still need to swap positions of the rearmost jackshaft sheave and the pto sheave as the larger sheave will better align to the idlers on the mule drive and let the idlers move up in their adjustment slots. Of course, I'll have to get a shorter belt to go between the jackshaft and the pto when I do that.

It's unclear to me why a B210 (213" belt) fits this setup so well when a B133 (136") is called out for the 59CF-1. There's no way a B133 would be long enough, even if I move the deck as far back as it will go and slide the idlers to the top of their adjustment slots.

Maybe this isn't a 59CF-1 and it's just a mutt. Regardless, this setup worked fine while mowing 3.5 acres in the dark last night.
