Clips
Recently someone asked where clips could be obtained that holds emblems in place. Clips are not the correct name for these thingamajigs but I browsed through nuts and bolts section at a True Value store today and found them in many sizes. This is a large store so smaller stores may not carry these "clips". I'm talking about the ones that push on a stud and resist coming off. Some lawn tractors carry what I'm referring to that keeps wheels in place on axils, but those are much larger. Price for the ones I needed were .10 each.

Re: Clips
TM Tractor sells a couple of different versions of these "push clips". Just bought some for the 57'.

For what it's worth, the trade name for these is "push nuts". McMaster-Carr sells a variety of styles and sizes. http://www.mcmaster.com/#push-nuts/=146m2aq

Re: Clips
Hi,
The original clips that IH used for the 1954 - 1958 metal emblems were round and pushed into the holes before you put the emblems on. They fastened themselves into the holes, then the emblems studs would push into the clips.
They are called Fastener, Tubular Clip in the Cub parts book.
The part number for them is shown at numbers 21, 22, 23, and 24 in the description on the 2nd page below.
The clips for the 1958 - 1964 name plates are a different part number in the book.
The clips for the front IH emblem are a different part number, same style though.

BTW, my question referred to safely removing the clips, which I did successfully thanks to responses to my post. Three of my pins had separated from the stainless emblems at some point in the tractor's history. Now I have to figure out how to re-attach those pins.

Re: Clips
Don, Not sure how much room you have to work with but I've had good luck with JP Quick. If it doesn't work it is easy to grind off. Gorilla Glue would be 2nd choice, brazing the 3rd.

I though about that taking mine off if one would break, what would I do. Luckily mine didn't. I was thinking though you could replace the pins with something along the lines of an insulation nail. Something with a large thin head that the epoxy would have more area to grab onto, but would still allow the emblem to go all the way on tight. Has to be something like that out there with the correct diameter.

Hah! I have a whole tray full of those clips that I got in some auction stuff. I never knew what they were for. Glad I didn't throw them away!

Re: Clips
Fortunately, the pins remained in the clips and the clips remained on the hood. I think I'll give the JB Kwik Weld a try.
