As of 1964, IH had been bolting white parts on red tractors for 8 years and using white hoods on yellow Cub Cadets for 4 years. It seems unlikely that they would have needed 10 weeks to work out the bugs related to feeding painted hoods to the assembly line after the paint booth rather than unpainted hoods before the paint booth.

The 12-volt starter is larger diameter than the 6-volt starter. The engine block was changed to add clearance for the new starter. This is the difference between an R7 and an R8 block.

Guess I should update my list of Cubs... or not. I also have a 77 red long stripe.

I have owned 4 64 Cubs. One was a 6v Lo Boy (likely originally yellow and white). The sn tags of the Cubs all said Farmall. The 12v ones have a key switch and starter button, so the dash is different. The starter and generator are different and the wiring includes a ground wire to the lights.

Surely someone is still out there that worked at IH (factory or dealer) that knows the story on these Cubs. I also find it interesting that the paint committee documentation stops at 1963....would be our luck!

I'm thinking an article about these tractors should be in store for Harvester Highlights magazine

No matter how it got to be that way...it's a nice looking tractor. Thanks.
