Hydraulic question
I got in my newly rebuilt 49 cub today and the hydraulics would just barely lift up and down. Just hic ups if u know what I mean. I first checked the block for the fluid level and it was practically empty. Checked the engine and it was 3 inches on the stick overfull. I suspect something going on in the time. Can somone tell me where to start looking and what to buy to fix...thanks again

Re: Hydraulic question
Your o-rings or seal gone in your hydraulic pump and it's pushing the oil in the engine. You might want to change the oil before using the tractor and your next job will be to rebuild your hydraulic pump.

Re: Hydraulic question
My guess is the hyd fluid is leaking past the O-Ring in the pump and into the pan. There are several posts that you can search for to get some ideas and at least one "HOW TO" viewtopic.php?f=141&t=44196#p365250 which no longer has the images. Bob in CT had a pump modified to use a lip seal instead of the O-Ring. Forum sponsers and CASE-IH should have the rebuild kit. Someone posted a few days ago that the pump is much easier to rebuild than the TC. Stan

Re: Hydraulic question
There are a number of posts on this and my '49 did the same thing. The front seal on the older units can be upgraded from leather to a modern seal if is was not already done do. http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewto ... =1&t=40331

Re: Hydraulic question
I would think that the main reason to upgrade to the seal would be because the shaft was scored too badly for a new o-ring to seal correctly. With the retrofit seal you can seat the seal to a position on the shaft to avoid any scoring. TM Tractor has single o-rings for $1.00 or you could pick up a dash 112 (0.103 thick, 0.487 ID, durometer 75-medium hardness) o-ring at an auto parts store. If the shaft is scored, then the retrofit will save future problems. You'll also need a new gasket and the two o-rings where the manifold attaches to the pump.
