How much cranking to get oil pressure ?

Postby northpaw2 » Fri Jun 10, 2016 6:05 pm

Got my cubby back together, spun it over a few times after priming the pump. How long should it take to build pressure up. I know the filter housing needs to fill up. :help:

If properly primed the pressure should come up 1-2 seconds upon start up. You might not always see pressure if you're just cranking it because its not spinning the pump fast enough.

Take the filter cover off. If you see oil spurting out of the hole, on the block side of the filter, you'll be ok.

Without starting the engine, it may take a couple of seconds to see oil being pumped into the oil filter housing. Then you are good to go.

How long to see oil pressure on the gauge? Number of variables. Guessing, starting the engine, you should start to see the gauge start to move withing 15 seconds. Full oil pressure some where around 45 to 60 seconds.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thank you all, firing it up tomorrow! When I got it last year, I put some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders, so I will hopefully kill some of the bugs around here!

It is not unusual to take 15 to 20 seconds to show oil pressure on start up at anytime.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
