Dome piston or not

Postby Tractor Tom » Fri Sep 02, 2005 11:48 pm

My engine kit came today and it included dome pistons by mistake. You may answered this already but can or should I use them?

Domed pistons use dirrerent connecting rods. The later cubs have them and get more HP.. If you use them you may have a problem with clearance with the head for there was a little change in it too. Let some one who has made the change chime in and give more details.

The domed pistons alone add very little power. The true power increase comes from a bunch of changes IH made to the engine but primarily from increasing the high idle speed. The other changes allow the engine to breath better with the increased top speed : larger carburetor, manifold, etc.

Many guys have used the domed pistons and claim great power increases. I think a fresh engine will have a great power increase over a worn one. Get the correct pistons and you'll be quite satisified.
