I was wondering if there is a nonevasive way to get a float unstuck on my 1947 cub. I have never worked on a tractor before. I have to jump start it in
order to use it. Should I tap lightly above the drip port or be smart and find someone who can fix it. It doesn't look to complicated, it's a low number cub.
Many Thanks

Re: drip port leak
The original carbs were pot metal and a little on the fragile side. If the leaking dosen't stop with a gentle tap from a screwdriver handle, you should pull the carb and carefully take it apart.

Re: drip port leak
Pull the top half straight up from the bottom half to allow the idle tube (think that's what it is) to clear.

Re: drip port leak
Probably trash between the needle valve and seat.
Cheap try, remove the hex head screw on the lower side of the carburetor. Let a couple cups of gasoline drain out. Replace the hex head screw.
If this doesn't work, try a fuel system cleaner from the auto parts store. A lot of times the fuel system cleaner will work on tractors that have sat for quite some time.
Lastly, since nothing else worked. You will need to remove the carburetor from the tractor, disassemble and clean. If the carburetor is not terribly dirty, you can use a spray can of carburetor cleaner from the auto parts store. The carburetor is pretty simple with few parts.

I have an excuse. CRS.

I say download the manuals form this site and go for it.
By the way, jumping your Cub on a regular basis is not a good thing, spring for a new battery. Check to see if it's a 6Volt or 12 Volt battery. If it's a 6Volt, you probably have a Positive ground rather than a Negative ground.
Good luck and welcome to the site.

Re: drip port leak
Don't worry about never working on a tractor before. I know nothing and these guys helped me through all my disasters. I was threatened by carbs (because of all those small parts) - but really the forum crew will get you through it.
Best advise I've seen about carbs is: take it apart over a shallow cardboard box (like for a case of brew, excuse me soda) - because of all those small parts. Even that I learned here.

Re: drip port leak
Hi,
Welcome to the website.
The float level can be too high, and then the carburetor will drip. The float level should be set to an exact measurement that is in the service manual.
The needle and seat at the float, that shuts off the fuel coming into the carburetor, can wearout too after years of use, so it doesn't seal, and leaks fuel into the carburetor. The fuel will drip out of the carb then. Then the needle and seat need replacing with new parts.
Here is a page from the Cub parts book showing the carb. The needle and seat is number 9 in the pic. Click on the pic makes it bigger.

We do have a number of forum members from NE Oklahoma. Maybe one will see this thread and offer some hands-on help.

In fact, most of them will be at a CubFest in Dewey Okalahoma (just over an hour away from you) tomorrow and Saturday.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: drip port leak
Best bet is to take your carb off the tractor and take it to the Cubfest. You will be able to get it fixed, learn a lot and probably a lot more. Wish I could go but it's a bit too far and life gets in the way. Stan

Re: drip port leak
Yes, bring it to Dewey or bring your tractor if you have a trailer and we'll see what we can do for you.
