Working Cub?
I am curious on what and how people use their cubs! I pick a cub because I needed a tractor to take care of my 3 acres. I initially started using a large Troy Built Rototiller, but shortly after that spring, I quickly discovered I needed somthing a bit more! What I was planning was to plant a good size garden, plant small area's of field crops, plow snow and general hauling. I thought the cub was the best choice for size and cost. But the hard part is finding implement at a reasonable price! What I could find in my area was costly and well used. I have managed to collect the things needed, plow, disk, snow blade and an old oliver two-row corn planter. Using the cub is fun and I love it! I have to admit that my plow job looked pretty rough at first and is getting better with practice!

Eddie - It's good to hear that someone is using their cub. I think using them is much more fun than just looking at them. Cubs are great for mowing and gardening tasks. 3 of my cubs have mower decks on them (overkill) another has a sickle bar mower on it right now. I'm not much into gardening right now (no time) but I do have a plow and disk if and when they are needed. I also have snow blades for 2 of them plus one for the cub cadet 782.
There is nothing more relaxing than spending time on the seat of a cub.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I bought mine primarly for mowing my 4-5 acres. Works great with a Woods 59 mower. I just bought a snowplow for it that I am redoing and will use it this winter. I will also be using it for plowing and harrowing a large garden next year.
It is more fun to use them then look. If i do not need to mow, I will often just take it for a ride around the yard!

My Cub is used mostly for mowing on a walnut plantation and pulling a trailer. The Cub is also used for plowing, disking and harrowing a small garden plot.
I bought my Cub because it was cheap, or as my father says "You didn't buy the Cub, you stole it." And, because I love working on old tractors. I initially didn't think I would have much use for the Cub as I have 3 other, bigger tractors and 2 IH Cub Cadets for mowing. The Cub surprised me with it's usefullness and mostly it's fuel efficiency.

I work 10 acres with my Cub, and I do everything with it. Plow, disk, mow, haul felled trees to the woodpile, grade dirt and gravel, and push snow. I just reinstalled my fasthitch this evening, and pulled my bush-hog around to the garage, where I will weld a new adjustment rod onto it. Next week, I'll be discing a new field for planting as pasture. It is such a versatile machine, and fun to boot!

My neighbor was shocked that I would put the Cub to work after making it look so nice.
Mows about 3 acres and some woods roads.
Cut this cul-de-sac for the first time in 3 years, some of the weeds were over the hood!

I have an IH cub (Little Indy), a Farmall cub (Big Red) and Farmall 140 (Little Red). They are all working tractors. Cutting grass, disking, plowing, pulling trees over (rotten base) and pulling a trailer. I have a flail mower, sickle bar mower and Woods belly mower as well as plows, disks, cultivators. I hope to rebuild them one at a time. We consider them part of the family

Many of us use our Cubs on a regular if not daily basis depending on what time of year it is.
I have 2 working Cubs.. by that I mean they earn their keep and they are actually working...
Ellie-Mae is my 48. She does the following:
Garden plowing Ellie-Mae's First Plowing with my Cub-193 Moldboard Plow.
Garden Cultivating with my Cub-144 Spring Tooth Cultivator
Garden prep with my IH horse drawn Spring Harrow, soon my IH horse drawn Disc Harrow, and my home made M-H equipped Rear Hiller
Garden (potato) harvesting with my M-H Potato Digger
Yard work with my soon to be completed McCormick-Deering Leveling and Grader Blade
Log Hauling chores both with the draw bar and chains as well as with my home made Log Wagon
Snow plowing with my Home-made Snow Plow.
And of course, I am working on a belly mount reel mower and restoring my IH C-2 Mower which I just acquired by a very interesting method.....
There are lots of things for a Cub to do... seat time is a very good theraputic interval, one which any person would do well to take advantage of..

Rufus looks sooooo tiny... but wow look at the scenery and he does look sharp
