I have a friend who is supposed to be bending me 4 pieces of sheet metal. I told him last week I was in no hurry meaning a few days but his no hurry means not yet. I used to work in the A/C business and still have a friend who works there. I got to thinking and got him to get me some "S" locks, they go on duct work to hold it together. I marked it to 3/4" wide and cut it with a cut off wheel. Now to bend the top and bottom without kinking or collapsing it.

I kinda knew it wouldn't work trying to bend this sheet metal around a piece of pipe like I did the wire but tried it anyway, no go on that.

Could you heat it and then curve it? Find a farrier who'll let you use his gas forge for a few minutes. :D

I stuck a piece of 1/8" X 3/4" metal down in it and used the hand bender and bumped it a little at a time....now to separate it.

I don't know what was worse, trying to bend it or trying to separate it. Got the top bent and fit.

Welding metal that's only .015" thick is tough, had to turn the welder down past off on the negative side of the power, whew. It looks pretty close to being done to me, maybe one day I will make another one with less squares but now you can tell a difference in these side by side.

One custom built, custom fit grille for our Cub. Now to get it sandblasted and powdercoated. Getting it sandblasted because I used that galvanized sheet metal.
