While I Was At It ! --- Help!!!

Postby Rudi » Mon Aug 22, 2005 5:33 pm

Guys:

Have a look at this:

I am assuming that this is caused by water in the oil yes :?: If so, how did it get there... the cap is on... :? :?: Could this have been because she was outside in the weather all winter whilst I was in hospital :?: Such as from snow infiltration :?:

I am going to give the unit a dunk in the kerosene tank and see what happens. Hopefully it will be all cleaned out. Some glad that I took it off to have a boo at it before I started Ellie up :!:    8) :D

Rudi, I would think that the weather could be the only cause for water in your air cleaner resevoire. Unless you had a load of water in the crankcase pan and it breathed it in from the so-called PCV tube on the front of the block. BUT I would think that to be highly unlikely.

Rudi

even in normal winter conditions if you don't get the temperature up for a extended period of time , it will have condensation build up.

The kerosene won't remove water.

Rudi, I cleaned mine out with cheapo Wal-Mart carb cleaner in the spray can and let it air dry in the sun. Came out super clean. Might cost you 2-bucks.

Rudi:

Are those calcium deposits on the screen? Perhaps some CLR will remove them.

No matter how you clean up the air cleaner, the last thing to do is dry it out really really good then dunk (soak) it in kerosene. The innerds are pads of steel wool. You want to prevent the steel wool from turning into a pile of rust.

Source of the water, capillary action and blowing snow. I wouldn't worry about it.

Eugene
