Front inner wheel bearing removal HELP

Postby itpdk9 » Sun Jan 10, 2016 3:08 pm

Trying to remove inner front wheel bearings on my 51 cub. I followed the "rudi" manual by it says carefully tapping the rim behind the bearing to remove it off the cone. It will not budge at all. It got to the point of me saying the heck with it i was wacking the heck out of it and it won't budge. I need to change the felt and seals as they are leaking. Any help here would be so much appreciated... Would a jaw puller work? Thanks in advance.

awesome thanks, I guess it is called a Bearing Separator, haha appropriately named. LOL

Is the tightening up of the nuts what dislodges it?

No - just adjusts for the bearing size.

If you are going to buy a bearing separator, get a quality one. The one I purchased from Harbor Freight broke before the pulley got pulled.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I have had a couple of the HF bearing separators. I actually find myself using them quite a bit. If you really get to pulling hard on them or using them in the press, you will probably punch the center out if you ain't got a good bite on the bearing. This is the reason I have had a couple of these. But will buy another as they are cheap and work for most of the lighter duty pulling.

I've had a HF bearing separator, over 5 years. Chipped it, once, my fault, wasn't adjusted right. Still useable, and frequently used.

Out of curiosity, what, exactly, are you trying to remove from where?

Are you trying to get the inner bearing off the spindle, or out of the wheel hub?

This project was by far the worst. I went to harbor freight and bought the bearing separator puller set. I was finally able to get both bearings off. What a pain in the rear... I ended up damaging the one bearing which I placed another order with TM Tractors today ( I'm their new best customer). Putting the new oil seals and the bearing back on was a PITA. Either I am doing something wrong or it just is not fun. Anyways one side is done and waiting for my new bearing for the other side. Thanks for the help and support.
