Possible solution, one I like and so do many others on this forum. I orginally thought that I would convert Granny back to original as far as carb and genny/mag setup. She has been converted to 12 volt. Then I thought I might put touch control on her keeping in mind that the hand lift is kinda difficult for me at the moment due to the heart surgery...
But, I digress.
I think you shoulk keep it original. Then, find yourself another Cub.. a little newer say a 48, 49 or maybe a 50....
A man can never have too many Cubs
Your better half might not think this is such a good idea though.... Em has said that is it for me with 3... but I still need Jed ifn I want to complete the family... Ellie, Granny, Jethro annnnndddd Jed someday
Then you can have a Cub set up for mowing and one for other chores. Course, this approach does have a drawback. As soon as you get another implement, you immediately tend to look for ANOTHER CUB to put it under
Just a thought

Well I'm on the hunt for a starter cover plate. I called TM and they said they were not sure that they had ever seen one. He suggested it would be easy enough to fabricate one. I will probably do that while I look for an orginal.
Rudi:
I was talking tractors with my wife (who will actually put down her book and interrupts her reading time to watch tractor shows with me) about the apparent custom of naming ones tractor. You'll need to be familiar with one of the Star Trek characters to follow my logic, but this was my attempt to lay ground work for the future.
If I buy nine tractors I can name the seventh one "Seven of Nine" she didn't go for the nine tractors or the reference to "Seven of Nine" This may of back fired on me.
However I do have my eye on another Cub with Hydraulics, Starter, Lights and Generator. He is asking $1600.00 and no other implements. It does run and start and Hydraulics move. I would need to get the lifting mechanism for the back however. I'm gathering the cash and waiting to see if he'll lighten up a little on the price.

Yup, Voyager... I even have some of the backgrounds. I have been a trekkie since the 60's.
$1600.00 seems middle of the road... mite bit high maybe depending on condition, especially as there is no mower etc.... but then again it depends on the area you are in.
As for the rear lifting arm... if you are handy at all, the plans to fabricate it are on the Cub Manual Server - - Rear Lifting Bar - Full Scale
On the Manual Server, there is a neat drawing which I acquired from CaseIH HQ, through my local CaseIH Dealer. The Clutch Housing Cover was proving hard to find. I had been trying to find a cover as Ellie did not have one and locating one was getting frustrating. Finally got one about a week after I got the drawings and the stock to make one. Will make them eventually, hate to see good stock go to waste....
Anyways, the point is - on a NLA part (No Longer Available) if the dealer queries, then CaseIH may comply and send the drawing. Especially if no one has a licence agreement with CaseIH to produce the part as an aftermarket item.
That may be the route to go. If you should happen to acquire a drawing, sketch, the actual part... be nice to have a copy of the drawing for the server....

I will have to wait until I get home to check my parts manual to see if they call out a part number for a starter cover or not. The guy at TM was confident enough that he had never seen one in his parts manuals he didn't look it up. He had been so helpful I didn't really want to press it.
I'll give my Case IH guy a call there about 40 minutes away and open Saturday mornings so it's a nice drive for little ones and I and it gives Mom some alone time.
I will need to go look with a more detailed eye at the Cub. I learn so much every day from the forum that each next step is a more informed one.
Speaking of the forum is there a place that tell you what all the little symbols mean in front of the posts?

Not sure why you would have to wait until you got home to check the Parts Manual That is what the Cub Manual Server is for..
Anyways, the answer to your question is quite simple really. And because of the generosity of one of our Fourm members, we actually have a copy of the original TC-37 Parts Manual Series -- the TC-37A Parts Calalog
Guess what is on Page 8
Yup... Item #35 is the item you are looking for Part # 48 554 D Starter Pad Cover
With that information I am assuming that you should be able to get an Original Drawing from CaseIH. I will check my 100hp and under CD and see if this part is still available.. I doubt it, but it may be...
Hope this helps some...

my body shop bud (that painted Pete for me) has a cub he got from his wife's dad in New York who bought it new. i've got to go look at it, but he says it has no starter, a blank plate, manual lift, no electrics of any kind. i'm curious as to the serial number, as it's supposed to be a '47. but i can see about a drawing of the plate, if no one can come up with one.

I just checked the 100Hp and Under CD... it comes up on Page 127 Power Group C-60 Engine, Crankcase and Related Parts:
Item #21 Part Number 48554D Cover, Starter Pad.
Next step is to see if it is available.
Just checked Case Tractor Parts On-line and this is the answer :
Error Code: MER-DTB-00072
Description: Product '48 554 D' not found
Description: Product '48 554D' not found
Description: Product '48554D' not found
I am not sure what other permutations are possible. The part does not seem to be in their data base. Now mind you, this site IS NOT CaseIH Global, it is just a Dealer -
Curtis Wager and Glade and Grove Supply co
1006 state road 80
Belle Glade, Florida 33430
I would check with "Bermude" Ken Updike over at Carter & Grunewald. Ken is the Parts Guru at that dealership and if it is available Ken can find it.
Hope this helps some more..

You don't have to go back to the early Parts Catalog. TC-37F shows it on the same page with the engine block. I thought the "D" part number seemed odd for a Cub-specific part. So I checked the A/B Parts Catalog. Sure enough, same part number. Widens the possibilities considerably. A lot better chance of finding one from an A. Next step, checked the Super M, book, same story. So the same cover was probably used on every gasoline powered letter series tractor.
I don't know what happened to Glade and Grove's web site, but large numbers of still available parts now come back as "Product not found". Maybe they decided they were getting way to many hits for the number of parts they were selling.

Artc:
That would indeed be great. A tracing of it with heigth, width, and thickness measurements would help. Any descrepancies with scanning, faxing or other duplication processes could be corrected by having the actual measurements.
My local dealer got derailed and was looking for a brush/dust cover for the starter itself. He is back to calling headquarters for the original part number from the part catalog and will get back to me.
As for Star Trek and the sixties. I signed a petition to revive the original series when they cancelled it. I fell of the Star Trek wagon about half way through the Voyager series.

Jim, yup you are right and I was pretty sure that it was in the later manuals, but I just wanted to be sure. Also, I like using the earlier ones every now and then just for the heck of if
Also, it is nice that the part is not Cub specific and that it may actually still be available if not from the dealer, then possibly from salvage yards. Sure does open up the possibilities....

My 52R combine Cub has the starter cover plate. I will be glad to pull it off and trace/measure it. Let me know, I might have time to do so this weekend.
