wiring harness

Postby jayc1945 » Sun Dec 20, 2015 8:52 am

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP AND ADVICE! ( on me frying out my regulator and part of my wiring) but i think i'm going to bite the bullet and get a new harness and be done with it, ( a christmas gift to myself and the cub!) i saw that " YESTERDAYS TRACTORS" has them and regulators for a fraction of what i can get around here! my question is, has anyone gotten any from them ? meaning do they fit o.k. and all that or is there more advice on buying them? THANKS AS ALLWAYS!

watch out for the cheap import regulators, you get what you pay for, for a 6 volt system regulator you need a vr-217 is a common part # at a parts store, you will pay up for the USA ones but they work

Never purchased a wiring harness from them, but have purchased other items for other tractors I have owned. Never had a problem with any part, and the service is first rate. Now it has been 4 years since my last order and things could have changed. While I agree that it is always better to buy ftom a web site sponser, I do shop price. I love to rebuild old equipment, cars, trucks, even lawn mowers (working on a 1967Sears Suburban). Shopping price makes my hobby possible. As far as a wiring harness goes, especially for an older tractor, they are very easy to make.

Definitely get the good VR.the last one I bought was at NAPA and about 70 bucks. The cheapo VR lasted a few hours. Haven't had a problem with the good ones yet, and they're 5+ years old.

Try Porch Electric 815-368-3230 (IL) for the wiring harness. on the interweb at..... http://www.porchelectric.com

They build them here in the USA by hand!!! Their prices are competitive too!

I can second Bermuda Ken's suggestion. Porch is very helpful. In addition, they will question you carefully, and only sell you what you need (i.e. the wire from the VR to the generator is separate, so they will ask you if you need it). Also, they sell the harnesses in both cloth wrapped (if you want originality) and plastic wrapped (not as costly as the cloth wrapped).
