Your picture is an IH carb, standard on the FCub and Cub LoBoy until mid 1975 when the Zeneth carb was introduced. Recommend you carefully separate the two sections by pulling them straight apart to prevent damaging the idle jet tube. Clean everything up and check the top half for any distortion from previously over tightening the screws. Flattening and straightening can be done if needed. Use a new quality gasket and reassemble, this should eliminate any leak at this point. You can use a sealer that is rated for gasoline if desired but use sparingly. You can do this for about $10 - $15, much less than replacing the carb. Stan
EDIT: There are several threads about this on the HOW TO forum: viewforum.php?f=139 Look for the FUEL topic.

The rear outside corner looks suspect. I would do as Stan said. Check the gasket and top to see if it is warped. If it is, it is an east fix.

Agree with Stan except that I would not use gasket adhesive on the bowl to top gasket. The bowl to top gasket may still be in good condition and reusable.

Couple cans of spray carburetor cleaner should be sufficient to clean the exterior and blow out the galleries.

Check the condition of the needle valve and seat. Adjust the float height before reassembly. Seepage at the bowl to top gasket is usually one of the two mentioned areas or the gasket under the needle valve seat.

There are several folks on this site that service carburetors. This service is much cheaper than purchasing a new carburetor.

Also search this site. There are a number of instructions and tips on carburetor service.

got the carb off and noticed the black hose going to the air cleaner from the carb looked like it was saturated and worn as you can see from photo on the bottom - most of hose is in good shape just the bottom part where hooks to carb ...was thinking I may be able to slice that part off..

also wondering if I can clean the carb and pieces in kerosene as I don't have any carb cleaner around

You can pick up carburetor cleaner in spray cans at the auto parts store for some where around $4- a can. The can will have a plastic tube suitable for cleaning out passages and jets.

Even if you use kerosene you will still need to clean out the passages and jets with carburetor cleaner.

Carb cleaner has much stronger solvents as well which may remove more stuff that kerosene can't touch.

Take it to your local autoparts store and have them cut off a new piece of hose. If you are lucky they will have scrap pieces laying around and will just cut off and give you what you need. If not they may charge you a buck for it.

Yes, do as Doug mentioned. You want oil resistant rubber hose that is 1-1/4" inside diameter x 2-1/2" long. It runs about $9 - $10 a foot but they will sell by the inch.

I found paint stripper is very effective against the brown varnish stains that are on the outside of your carb.
