Another Final Drive Question
I have my final drive apart and need a little help. The side with the long shaft on my cub has a cover with a dust cove that resembles one on a car etc only bigger. My mparts manual does not identify the seal that is needed to replace. I drove it out but not sure as it does not look like the rest of the seals. Any help or part number would be appreciated.

Re: Another Final Drive Question
Sounds like you are looking at the planter sprocket drive cover. The left side has an open seal with a boss to bolt a gear on driven at wheel axle speed. The other side is completely covered. If that is not showing up in your parts manual perhaps you need a different manual. Sometimes, the right side final ends up on the left side if implement holes are broken. It is easy to change the axles so sometimes the get swapped.
Here is a link to a 16 meg file parts book. See Group 7, page 11.

Here's a link to TM Tractor which shows (I think) what you are looking for. If you don't want to get it from them, your auto parts store should be able to cross over the Case/IH part #: http://www.tmtractor.com/new/fr/279fp.htm

I may be wrong, but I think it is the RIGHT side that gets the sprocket drive, isn't it?

I think it depends on if your backing into or out of the barn
Right is right- on mine at least.
