How does your cub react to loads? The fact you say it runs fine with the tractor in neutral suggests a governer or tuning issue.

Re: Fast Hitch Mower Deck
I'm pretty confident this is a Kub Klipper like the one in the ad Barnyard posted. If so it has been fairly extensively modified. I imagine the drive belt is a "double V" -- 6 sided. The only tractors other than a Cub with a one-point hitch are the Super A/100/130/140 models. They have a 1-3/8 PTO shaft that runs 540 RPM. Implements aren't even close to mixing between them and Cubs.
As Puffie40 said, I suspect your problem (if not just high expectations) is that the governor isn't responding.

Maybe the PO moded the mower to change discharge side?

Re: Fast Hitch Mower Deck
Hello all,
Been busy and have not really visited the site in a while, anyway came across this discussion and thought I would add my 2 cents worth. As too it not operating right, maybe something with the tractor, others have better advise on that than me. On the mower it is NOT heavily modified and was meant for the cub. Dad has one just like yours, but no we have not used it, Dad is thinking of selling it and looking for a smaller fast hitch type for the collection. Ours looks just like yours but no tag. I picked up a binder with lots of I.H. approved equipment for the cubs and other IH tractors and here is a one page piece on this mower. Only difference is that this one does not have front casters but our is like yours and does have four castors. Maybe the idea was with four castors you could set it to a fixed height and basically let it float along the ground? They might of had issues with this model and then came out with the K60D-FH.
So we can all add this to re-memory on the many variations on original short line equipment.
Just my humble impute

Re: Fast Hitch Mower Deck
Russel,
That is a great addition to this discussion. I had not seen anything like the brochure you posted. Makes it clear that SunMaster redid the mower and turned it around themselves. I can't tell which model is older/newer, but updates to deal with issues on the original makes sense. If I had to guess, it looks like one version has replaceable skids and the other not. I would think the replaceable skids would have been part of an upgrade. OTOH, the welded version may have cost less to build.

Re: Fast Hitch Mower Deck
My page was written at the top in pencil Feb. 1958. If I remember correctly the other models are newer, I have some pages on them and it does have a print date of I think 1959.
I have a correction on dads mower, I went and looked and it only has 2 casters on the back, so the front two could be a add on or just a variant.

Re: Fast Hitch Mower Deck
The second pair of wheels are welded on and the brackets have bolt holes, so I assume they were added on. The design, including the bolt holes look just like the ones on the other model mower. So they are probably Sun-Mastr parts, just creatively attached.

Thanks everybody. This is great information! Thank you Russel for the pictorial, it sure answers a lot of questions and clears things up. Looks like I need to focus my attention on the tractor, such as tune-up (timing?) and governer.

Re: Fast Hitch Mower Deck
Thanks Russell for the attachment pic on the FH 360. Clears everything up nicely. Must be a rare bird for sure. FWIW Goldencub, your Cub should be able to handle that deck as well as it would a 60" belly mower. Meaning that if your Cub is up to 100% and the deck is set up right it should have little trouble mowing with it. As others have said a 60" deck is right at the cusp of being too much for a Cub, grunt and growl a bit, but they will handle it.
PS I'll say it again, I really like the idea of a 60" rear mounted deck! Let us know how it works out.
