UNF Thread in Crankshaft Pulley End

Postby challenger » Wed Nov 11, 2015 10:24 am

Before I run into town to look for a 1/2 - 20 bolt to use in pulling the crank pulley, I thought I would ask whether anyone is aware of some C-60 crankshafts having fine thread versus coarse thread cut in the crank end. I did not have on hand in the shop a 1/2 - 20, but i found a 7/16 - 20 that threads in, though loosely. Another curious feature with this engine is that the block exterior is painted gray, obviously aged, but original paint. Were there variants of the C-60 that had the UNF versus the UNC thread in the crankshaft end?

I personally haven't heard of it being tapped for fine thread, but anything's possible.

That said, what do you need to thread a bolt in for? If you heat the pulley in the oven it will slide on with a couple of raps from a wood mallet or a block and a hammer. No need to draw it on.
