The easiest way I have found to remove the pilot bushing is to squirt grease into and past the pilot bushing filling up the cavity with grease. I then use a long bolt slightly smaller than the bushing and add electrical tape to the end of the bolt to make a tight fit into the bushing. I then insert the bolt with the tape end into pilot bushing and strike bolt with a hammer.(may take several times) Sometimes I need to add a little more grease, but the hydraulics will force the pilot bushing out. This has worked for me every time. Then after the bushing is out I have to clean up the grease. I used this method last night and was done in 10 minutes start to clean up. Hope this helps someone. Most old timers know this method, my wife's grandfather taught me. Sure do miss him.
Good luck

Re: how to easily remove clutch pilot bushing. (a little mes
I have never used that system, but I know a number of people that do and it seems to work well. The first one I need to replace (before the internet and tractor sites) I decided to thread the bearing and screw a bolt into it to pull it with. While I was threading it the tap bottom and the bearing started coming out, so I kept on turning and the bearing (brass bushing) came right out. Once it was out and no longer squeezed by the crankshaft I could unscrew it from the tap with my fingers. I don't remember what size tap it was.

The tap method worked for me also.

I stuck my finger in mine and it pulled right out. Obviously had been spinning in the flywheel.

I would have used a tap as well, but did not have one that big. Still new to working on old tractors. I'm sure in time they be in my tool box as well.
Thanks for all the advice.

Re: how to easily remove clutch pilot bushing. (a little mes
I used to do them that way and it worked very well. Since my early days of working on stuff, I have a good job now. So I spent a little money on a slide hammer. This is definitely the fastest way. Best part is that the slide hammer works great on the ball bearing type pilot bearings found on F series Farmalls and many others.

I have used this method many times to remove a pilot bushing, but now own a slide hammer. Both work great.

IIRC the bolt size is 5/8.
The trick is getting just the right amount of electrical tape.
By the by, Barhor Freight has an surprisingly good value 1/4 to 1" tap and die set for a reasonable amount. Hit them while on sale with the 20% coupon, and you can get it for about $70 out the door. I think they're titanium nitride coated or something like that.
