Mulching leaves

Postby Clip » Wed Oct 28, 2015 9:26 am

I have serious doubts that the Cub with the C-2 deck can mulch leaves like my newer Cub Cadet with a homemade mulch plug, but the fact that they offered a mulching kit, coupled with the spare expanded metal mesh I have lying around, makes me want to attempt to fabricate a 'leaf basket' as the operator's manual calls it. To me it looks like expanded metal runs in a semicircle slightly above and outside the path of the blades while the front shield is solid to prevent leaves from exiting forward. The size of the openings in the expanded metal somewhat control the size of the leaves. I also have a Pennington 600 deck that's in pieces, but might be a better candidate for mulching duties with the three smaller blades.

Does anyone have experience with the C-2 mulching kit, or mulching with the Cub?

Mulching a thick layer of leaves takes a lot more power, than mowing grass. Since you have a more powerful machine, that mulches leaves, I wouldn't waste my time, trying to fabricate something for the cub.

Mfg. brochure from Pennington with Cub using mower. Mine is missing the "mulching" attachment. Parts lists are listed in PDF MANUALS at the top of the page. Stan
