Cub transmission drive shaft replacement

Hi I am new to this forum but a cub owner for about 6 years now.my cub has had shifting problems since I have owned it. It makes a groaning noise when you push in the clutch pedal and you have to double clutch or it grinds. I decided to replace the clutch and throw out bushing so I separated the tractor and found a worn clutch and throw out bushing and a bent drive shaft. So my question is do I have to rebuild the transmission or can I just put in a used drive shaft?

You should be good with a replacement shaft although you might want to replace the trans input bearing while you have the thing split. I happen to have an extra drive shaft if somebody can't help you locally.

Make sure you check the PTO end of any used drive shaft. Don't use one with rounded splines. You'll have, or soon will have, PTO engagement problems and will be replacing the drive shaft again.

I should add that you can replace the drive shaft without having to dig too deeply into the transmission. You will have to separate the trans from the torque tube and remove the top cover to access the sliding gears that will be slipped off the shaft and slipped onto the replacement one.
