What type of oil?

Postby Ian D » Mon Oct 05, 2015 4:04 pm

Hello
Can I please ask what type of oil you guys put in the Cub gearbox and final drive units?
Would a multi-purpose agricultural oil suffice?
Thanks
Ian

80-90 weight is fine.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

80-90 or 85-140. Depends on if you are operating in the cold weather or not. 80-90 is the most universal. Some claim leaks are less with thicker oil. I have never found that. It it leaks with 80-90, it will leak with 85-140.

I've had good luck using Lucas gear oil additive at around 33% total volume. Really quieted down the noises and made shifts go from intolerably crunchy to very smooth.
