I figured out why the fast hitch looked cobbled. Someone added a piece of pipe to the vertical link arm. Took a few more pictures this morning. There is plenty of red under the paint. Maybe it is red primer. The casting codes are 8-6-L. I would like to find out if the serial number matches that month of production. A forum member mentioned that the serial number plate might have been put on a replacement bolster which might explain the red on the bolster.

Given the gouges in the serial plate at the rivet locations, I would say it looks like the plate has been transferred from another bolster.

Entering your SN in the "WHAT YEAR IS MY CUB" link at the top of this page reveals the following:
Year: 1965, SN RANGE: 19406--21175, PRODUCTION FOR YEAR: 1965. With your SN 20766 falling within that range and more specifically toward the last half of the total, IMHO the casting code 8-6-L suggests that it was built in the last half of that year. More info might be found in Raymond Durban's database for Cub LoBoy listed in the first post in this forum. Stan

Hi,
The yellow Cubs I have seen in pictures usually have the dark red primer showing when the yellow paint is coming off.

Raymond can tell you if the engine and bolster serials are in Line with what they should be. Give him the tractor serial and let him guess the engine serial then check to see how far off. He was requesting this kind of info a while back.
