#4 head plow bolts

Postby Shackleton01 » Sat Sep 26, 2015 9:38 am

So after the recent re-assembly of the 22 sickle mower that came in pieces with my cub years ago I was short the 3 tapered square bolts to re-attach the blade arm to the pivoting shoe it rides in. Bob gave me the only 3 he had in his stockpile with the idea they would just get replaced. Well, turns out those things are buttered gold and can cost an arm and a leg.

I looked around online and was able to get set up as a wholesaler through Trinity Logistics Group. I've ordered 25 (the minimum) and with shipping they come out to just about $4.60 each (still a little spendy for a bolt). So long story short, they are all 1/2x13 2" so they'd have to be lopped down for the 1.5" applications but nothing a cutoff wheel can't handle.

I'm not meaning this as a classified ad and am not looking to unload anything but if there's any hard to find hardware you run across let me know. I'd be happy to help if I can, cost direct.

Since I just got home and have not read all the posts I missed have you put it to work yet?

Great meeting you and look forward to next year.

Hey Mike,

I was hoping to use it today. I swapped out the belt for a 5/8" from the smaller one I had and got the few missing rock guards put on. I found a bunged up stay rod to use that I need to throw on there and need to get together with Bob to get the grass board finished up.

I've got a buddy about a mile down the road with a couple acres of weeds needing a touchup so we'll get an opportunity to put it to the test.

Pleasure to meet you too and hope to catch up again soon. I need to go out and find that AC-130 video and watch it again after our conversation!

Well, scratch that. The company called and said they don't have them but I could have a quantity of 300 or more made at a higher cost per bolt so they refunded my money and we're back to square one. Sorry to dangle that out there to every one and come back empty handed. :(

I have an old mower that is basically junk that may have these bolts. If you can identify which part numbers on the parts diagram you need I'll see if mine are any good.

Travis and Glenn, I found a company, Master Bolt, that had them in stock. To minimize cost, I ordered them unthreaded so I could cut to length and then thread. I have all I need and extras now.

Ok.. Sounds good. I didn't even know you could buy bolts unthreaded. Learn something every day--at least most days.

Is it still called a bolt if it doesn't have any threads? Sounds more like a #4 head plow PIN.
