Cub Engine Revision 8

Postby equeen » Thu Aug 20, 2015 8:26 pm

No serial number on tractor and I'm trying to get close to the model year of the tractor.

Both the engine and transmission are R8.

The tractor was yellow before fire burned most of the color off.

Thanks for any help as to when Revision 8 began.

Hi,
You can check the casting codes on the castings, and see which year they were made.
Here is info from TM Tractor showing where the codes are. The letter at the right on the codes is the year in code. An example is 6 4 M , it would be June 4, 1966.
The 2, L 2, L 2 X, or L 3, depending on year, on the clutch housing, by the clutch pedal is not a date code. The code is usually to the rear of the part number on that casting.
The 2nd link below tells what year the codes are. Sometimes the codes are not easy to read on the castings. :)

Revision 8 began somewhere after June of 1964 but prior to November 1964. However, that won't help identify the year. You will need the cast code as Glen mentioned.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

You should be able to read the engine number stamped into the block.

Hi,
True Jim, I didn't write that in my post above. Here is a page from the Cub owner's manual showing where the engine serial number is.
