C-2 Mower Belt and Parts

Postby cavingreer » Tue Aug 18, 2015 4:27 pm

Since I've got the tractor running I'm looking at the mower deck with increased speculation. It's got an IH serial number tag but I didn't get the number off it yet. Went through the parts manuals and I'm 99% certain it's the International C-2 Rotary Mower because it has the lifting chain for center mounting. Looks like the belt is a part number IH-477180-R1 which is a 1/2"x138 13/1 according to all the online listings I've found. My first question is what the heck is the 13/1 at the end of the size specs? And next question is obviously where's the best source for parts and the belt. 3rd question is should I throw this old thing down the hill and try to find a different mower? at 42" that's the same cut size as the old MTD Yard Machine I mow with LOL, although granted it's not as much fun to drive and may or may not be able to cut as well.

Can't answer first two questions, but third one- 42" mower will be the best all around mower for the cub in my opinion. Will do fine cutting your yard and will do some light bush hogging also. But understand with that said, I would only use one of these if I had a cub dedicated to its use. First year I used my cub, I'd change from mower to plow to dirt scoop to blade and back and forth and that's a pain in the butt. I now have a cub loboy for mowing :-)

I just finished cutting a back field with my semi-refurbed C-2. Belt size is B136, buy it online at Amazon or a local Napa. Parts should be available from the local IH dealer or Messicks or C&G online. Did a great job for me, the 3/8 thick blades mean business. Also, when sharp they cut my lawn just as well as the mower decks on my old Wheel Horse and new Cub Cadet.

If you don't want to use yours, I'll buy the blades off of you provided they're in decent shape.

Picture from this past weekend, most of the stuff was over the hood.

I've had every intention of using the mower, that's really one of the main reasons we got it. Wasn't sure how well it cuts so glad to hear it does well. The blades are in atrocious condition. They've been ground down to probably a couple inches shorter. We don't have an IH dealer anywhere near us anymore. I'll check the online sources for them. The skid on one side is broken off but possibly could be welded back on if I can't find a replacement.
Does anyone know the part number for the blades, or if there's a common replacement for them that I can get from a tractor supply or something?

This is what it looks like right now

Blade part number is 474025R1. I've been looking at Agri Supply's website trying to match one up but no luck. Maybe a machine shop could modify an existing blade like the Kub Klipper thread suggested.

I have a deck I have no use for. You're welcome to it. Blades are decent, just need sharpening. Deck itself needs work. Overrunning clutch froze up. Email me at twm1963@yahoo.com and I'll send pics

That was a huge help Clip! Messicks and Coleman Equipment both show that part in stock for about $65 each

I got the blades off the mower today and it looks like maybe mine were swapped out for flail blades? they're in terrible shape but they look like they're long and sharpened on both sides so they're reversible? The original 474025R1 blade had a lift wing according to some pictures is that right? Going to pack these around to the local tractor supply stores and see if anyone has something that might fit

I like my mower and use it for grass as well as light bush hogging. I love that cutter. However, it is a pain taking off and putting other implements on.

Just a shot in the dark, but you might contact the New Holland Dealer in Alexandria, LA for a cross-reference on blades:

I actually just got ahold of the Case/IH dealer Progressive Tractor between Ferriday and Jonesville LA which is about a half hour or so from Natchez and they do show the blades and the belt available. $70 each for the blades and $71 for the belt.

Yes it is but given the choice of getting the new ones that actually fit when the rest of the deck is in really good shape, or ordering blindly online and probably not getting the right parts or getting tied up in a BS backorder queue while they pretend to track them down I just decided to get the right thing. I really do want to come take that deck off your hands T but having my truck and trailer and a free day to do it has just escaped me :(

A big shout out to Progressive Tractor in Jonesville, LA. Not only did they get my parts in right away but Ed Carter brought them with him back to Natchez to save me the trip. Not only that but when he got to town and realized my phone number wasn't on the invoice he punched my home address into his GPS and was on his way to hunt down my house to make sure I got them. Fortunately when he didn't call me by the expected time and I emailed him my number on the chance he might get emails on his phone, he did and called me right away and we were able to meet up. Belt and blades in hand and now I just need to clean and mount a few things and get my refurbed skids back and I'll be mowing!

Belts are available from NAPA as well for around $35, if I can remember.
