Which Color is Right?

Postby PoconoCub » Wed Jul 08, 2015 2:45 pm

I am working on the universal mounting frame and was wondering what the true paint color should be? I have seen them in Red and Blue, although I like they way it looks in Blue I would like to paint it the correct color.

A few very early ones were blue. A few late ones were white. But most were red.

I am soooo confused now Jim :) I found a post http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57321 that shows all three colors and I am leaning towards the blue as it stands out so much better. I will have to see what the wife thinks.

Not sure why you are confused -- unless it is over the multitude of choices. Note that in the other thread, the white ones are original paint and the others have fresh paint. That has an effect on how each color shows in the pictures. Keep in mind that this thread has been talking about only the mounting frames. The tool bar color is a different story.

Yes it was over the choices of colors :) After my wife seeing the red she also said go with the blue since it stands out so blue it will be. I know the tool bar color is blue. If the weather ever cooperates I may get these things done soon, the grinding and sanding is the worst part, someday maybe I will be able to get a sandblasting box.

Is there a color that is close to the original IH blue ? my local TSC does not have IH blue and there is no Case/IH dealer near me n I'd rather get something I can easily get local n do a fix than have to wait 2 weeks for shipping.... So any help on other tractor colors that will work? The New Ford blue looked close to me but I haven't seen it on real metal (just the cap on the can).

Find an Ace Hardware Store. You may have to have them order it if it's not on the shelf. This is some of the best applying and wearing spray paint I've ever used. Very close to the original IH blue.

I have to agree with Don and Stanton. I repainted my cultivators, fertilizer distributer and planter with international blue from Ace Hardware and couldn't be more satisfied. Good luck, Tom.

I think the VanSickle IH implement Blue is the closest I have seen to some NOS parts.

The tool bars and shields went to black on the very late units, along with the white universal mounting frames. Shanks, standards, spring teeth etc. were always black (maybe except some during the post-WWII pigment shortages).
