two questions

Postby housebg » Wed Jun 24, 2015 10:30 am

First my cub seems as if the clutch is sticking, when you crank it and the first time you put it into gear it grinds after that it is a lot better stills grinds but not bad.
Second I just got the rear rocker ass for the rear cultivators and it has a extension it looks factory not home made . It is on the cultivator side of the ass.
Just got the tractor running good and am trying to get the cultivators together Billy

Pics of what you have would help, Billy. Check out the cub 144 manual here on this site

Remove the hand hole cover on the bottom of the torque tube and see what your graphite throw out bearing looks like. You'll also want to measure the finger height of the three fingers on the pressure plate to make sure those are all at the same height. There are several "how to's" in that forum that explain the procedure.

Billy , it sounds like it could be your pilot bushing on the engine. . That shaft that goes from the transmission to the engine rides in this bushing. If it is "crudded" or dirty it may not let the shaft spin freely when the clutch is in , causing a grinding of the gears when you try to shift. I am not sure I want to recommend a way to check this. You can call if you need to and if you think this might be the problem. Good luck.

I got the tractor running and it still seams to stick when plowing, it sometimes sticks when you press the petal in then it will release in a few seconds some time it does not release you have to hit the break

Have you inspected visually as Bob suggested? Checked finger height and pedal free play? Look through inspection hole and depress pedal to see what problem could be?

The shaft could be bent enough to where the disc doesn't slide or the shaft binds on the pilot bushing. Another possibility is the splines might be worn and the disc hangs up on them. (that's what's wrong with my Cub)
