Pan Seats

Postby DanielV2 » Tue Jun 16, 2015 12:06 pm

This question has been posted before, but not lately as far as I can tell. My '49 does not have a seat. I have been riding around on a 2X10 for a while now and have decided to get a real seat. I looked around and Steiner Tractor has a few selections ranging in price from $150 to $175. I think that is a little steep, but maybe the quality demands that price. Does anyone have a good aftermarket pan seat that they would recommend? Thanks!

You can probably find one by advertising on THE VINE classified add forum. Several members have used parts for sale.

You might also contact JPs, one of the advertisers on this board.

Do you only need the pan?

You should be able to obtain a used pan seat for considerable less that $150-. Cushions for pan seats are inexpensive,
I have an excuse. CRS.

The new ones will have the upholstered canvas/vinyl seal covering foam. As Eugene mentioned, if you don't mind buying a "bare" seat and adding the cushion, it will be much cheaper.

Saw several new, aftermarket pan seats with choice of upholstery (vinyl two-toned, canvas) at Red Power Round Up for $100-$120.

I know you can get a used seat in good condition for considerably less. Personally, if your Cub is going to sit outside, I wouldn't bother getting an upholstered seat; just bare pan.

I picked up a good used pan seat at red power last week minus the padding for $20. Definitely cheaper than a new seat.

I bought a new silver canvas covered pan seat on ebay for $120 shipped. It's a very nice seat, and it was made in the US.

whats wrong with a 2x10? Just keep it sanded so you don't get splinters. Ha ha, brings back memories. My brother and me went riding in a model A Ford that he was rebuilding and were sitting on 5 gallon buckets on the floor cross braces. Doing 60 and seeing my road beneath you was enough to sober up anyone.

You need to verify the mounts on the bottom of those seats, the tractors listed do not all use the same system for mounting the seat.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Yes, you are correct John. For example, this seat will not fit on an H or M with the pipe seat. It will fit an H or M with a monroe seat, or with the later IH spring seat, however.

The next step up from the 2 x 10 is to get a pan seat that is rusted out in the bottom, weld in a patch to permit bolting securely to the seat post then spray the thing with aerosol undercoating.

I went with the new seat from Rural King. Thanks for the link Ricky! It is American made, nice and heavy, and looks good to boot. Much more comfortable than the old 2X10!

Rural King's description says "Available with 4-bolt pattern, rod or rail. Also available with a brass ring drain hole for 4-bolt mount." Maybe you need to specify attachment method when ordering? For a Cub original style, you need the 4-bolt pattern and want the drain hole.
