Knife bar in travel position?
I have a problem with the cutter bar sliding down and hitting the ground in transport position. Didn't do this in the past, just started, I replaced the hold downs on the bar but it still slides down. Am I missing something?

Re: Knife bar in travel position?
Hi,
I guess you have a Cub 22 mower probably. Here is a picture of the knife head hold down the way it should look. The part that sticks up breaks off and then the knife will slide down when the mower is up vertical. There is a point on the metal end of the pitman too, that touches on the part that sticks up in my pic below. I don't have a pic of the pitman piece, I guess.
The part in my pic was still available at Case IH 1 or 2 years ago, I haven't asked lately. It was about $20. Hope that helps.

Re: Knife bar in travel position?
Never used a cub mower, but our H used a similar sickle setup with the hold up. As it got worn it would slip over the lock and drag the ground, resulting in a bent sickle a time or two. We started tieing it up using a piece of baler string around the pitman close to the sickle head as a safety precaution.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!

Green Arrow points to the cast pin on the pitman connecter that is supposed to catch on the arm (tab shaded red) that Glen posted. This one isn't cast metal. Disclaimer: this is not a Cub 22 mower but it's IH and same principal applies.

A quote from last year on this topic. Thread here; http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=84038&hilit=winfield+ear+part&start=15
It's a year later, I'm still thick headed, I still don't know which part is the "Winfield Ear", google search still doesn't help, and I still don't know who Winfield is.Scrivet wrote:Which part? The nub on the pitman end or the angle bolted to the sickle bar end? A google search just brought me back to a couple old posts here and maybe I'm just thick headed but it's not clear in those either.chuck ma wrote:The part is called a Winfield Ear bought two last year from case in
Around 10-20 bucks each could of around $13 but not sure

I know what you mean I haven't had a chance to get down to the farm and look at my mower, it is a 22 I know. I appreciate all the help from those more knowledgeable on this board.

Re: Knife bar in travel position?
Hi,
Here is the other part. The point on the right end of it contacts the part sticking up in the pic in my post above, when the bar is up in the transport position. It is called a Pitman Strap Rear, in the IH parts book for the mower. It is part number M1578.
Usually the other part in my post above breaks that I have seen, but could be either one broken.

You said you replaced the hold downs... including the hold down with the special tab that holds the bar in transport position as pictured above...
