Richmond Hopper - Seed Ejector

Postby PVF1799 » Thu May 28, 2015 6:54 am

Hi there - I redid the NOS Richmond hopper and while doing so I compared the one we've always used to the NOS - where I noticed a difference.

As you know there are three spring loaded dogs in the hopper. Two of them ensure seeds get into the seed plate holes and the third - pops the seed out of the seed plate hole. What I noticed on inspection is;
1. On my original (old stock) - the third dog is quite pointed - maybe 1/8" pretty round at the tip.
2. The NOS is shaped differently - it's more oblong in shape - nearly filling the opening in a 1962A Medium Corn Seed Plate.

After reviewing all the parts manuals I could find on the forum - I don't see a listing for different "seed ejectors" as I call them. In looking at the shape of the NOS - there is no way it could have worn to match the one in my original equipment.

Here's the question - where there actually different "ejectors - the 3rd Dog" for the Richmond Hopper?

There were different knockers. Somewhere in the manual links above, there should be a "Guide to Accurate Planting" which has a page titled "Knock-Out Pawls" that talks about them.

It all makes perfect sense - Not only have we used the wrong seed plate but the wrong knock-out pawl.
