new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
Good morning everyone,
My name is nick i live near syracuse, ny. I just bought a 1948 farmall cub from my father with 6 attacments. One of them being a woods model 59 and I'm looking for all the brackets so that I can hook it up to mow my larger lawn. I have a couple pictures of it but I will get better ones to post up so that it can be seen better. Thanks

Re: new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
I will have to pull it out to get a better picture. I have no brackets at all for it which is kind of a bummer. But I will try to snap a couple tonight to put on my tractor has the fast hitch on it which I will get a picture of also. Thanks

I might be reading more into your post than intended but if you intend to use the Woods 59 on a FCub with FH I don't believe it will work unless you have the mule drive that bolts onto the rear of the transmission. I have a mower on a 57 LoBoy with FH. I can get a picture if you need it. Stan

Re: new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
Is the mule drive the pulley that goes on the spline in the rear where the motto mower drive shaft would attach. If so then yes I would also need that pulley because I don't believe I have one. And yes if you could upload a picture that would be great I tried to upload my pictures but it says they are to big of a file.

That's a Mott flail mower that's on the Cub now. If you're lucky, the Woods may be a fast hitch version and you won't need much to get it usable.

Re: new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
Ya that would be nice but I don't think it is because it shows it using belts and not the shaft driven I will resize the photos I do have and put them on. Those are all the photos I have right now I didn't have time last night to pull the woods deck out.

The mule drive is the bracket/attachment that makes the belt change direction 90 deg. There are several different types that will work on a cub but as far as I know only the one that bolts to the rear of the trans will work with a FH. The pulley on the PTO shaft is a seperate part and is available new or you can post on the VINE classified for one. It is a 2 piece unit, the sheave and the tapered bushing insert. Just make sure you get the tapered bushing for the Cub PTO shaft, it's different from most other tractors. The pictures show my setup on the 57 LoBoy but your FCub will be very similar. Stan

Re: new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
If you look closely at the last picture, the rectangular bracket below the work light and next to the right tire is where the part that pushes the mower attaches to the tractor, one on each side. I had to fabricate these brackets and attach them to the factory mounting points to make the mower fit on the LoBoy. My mower is not a WOODS but yours will work in a similar manner. Let me know if you need some more pictures. Stan

Re: new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
Stan thank you very much. I would like to atleast pick up the pulley setups because I don't think I would like to try and make that setup but as for the other brackets to mount the mower I can probably make as I am pretty handy and have access to a welder. I would also be interested in some more pictures to see what I am going to be working with. Thanks again, nick

Re: new 1948 cub questions about woods 59 brackets
Nick, just to be sure what you are wanting to be able to do with the WOODS 59 mower is to leave the FH intact on the tractor and be able to mount and use the mower, correct? If that's correct, then if you can purchase or build a mule drive to mount on the rear of the transmission there will have to be brackets to drop down below the FH mounting points. Mine are made from 5/16 plate and are bolted to the finals on the tractor at the same point that the FH bolts to the finals. I then made the adjustment brackets from rectangle 2x3 tubing to center up the mounting/push frame for the mower on the center of the tractor. In the attached picture they are the white flat brackets with 2 holes for mounting and 2 lines of holes for connecting the mower. I'll get a picture of the bracket as it is mounted on the final later. You might consider advertising on THE VINE Classified ad for the mule drive part. That's where I purchased the parts in the first picture.

Bill as you can see from my pictures it worked very well. The current mower is the Bush Hog 412 but I can convert to the Pennington by removing 4 bolts and take off the modification brackets that was attached because the width was more narrow. Stan
