Question, Light switch?
OK while I was looking through the book and from times using the tractor. The book says there is four postions on the switch, but when I turn it there is only 3 postions. I'm I missing something here or not understanding the book?

Re: Question, Light switch?
Older models used a 4 position switch to control the charge rate. I think the change was made when the cutout was changed to a VR.

Re: Question, Light switch?
Hi,
Stan is right, the change was made in 1950, at Cub serial number 115403, they changed to Battery Ignition, and the voltage regulator. Info from Raymond Durban's data base. So they would have had the 3 position headlight switch. The 3 position switch was used from 1950 - 1958. The 4 position switch was for the cutout, or relay IH called it, generator system.
If you are looking at the 1950 Cub Owner's Manual, I think it does not mention the newer system yet, just the magneto and cutout system.
If you have an early 1950's Cub, with Battery Ignition, and there is no info in your owner's manual about Battery Ignition, use parts of the 1955 Cub owner's manual, it has info. Here it is below. There is contents on page 1, and the Battery Ignition starts on page 31. Click on the pics makes them bigger.

Re: Question, Light switch?
Hi,
Yes Rick, IH used a 4 position switch again starting in 1958, I think Jim Becker said on here lately. It was for the lights only, not the generator and lights, like the first Cubs had. I'm not sure if they were all 4 position switches after 1958, until 1979. Maybe someone else knows.
My info above in the other post would be for the 1950 - 1958 Cubs.

Re: Question, Light switch?
After '58, they all had 4 positions with the same function (O D B R). From what I have seen, the later 4 position switches all had round bodies, unlike the earlier switches that were all more or less rectangular in shape. The 12-volt switches had a different part number than the 6-volt round switches. I suppose the dimming resistor had a different value.
