48 cub clutch chatter

Postby oldiron29 » Tue Apr 28, 2015 5:29 pm

Hi Guys I have a 48 cub that makes a chattering noise sometimes. Sometime it chatters with clutch pedal in and sometime with it out in gear. I was thinking rust on the flywheel but I thought it would go way. It is not alway but I can't seem to pin poit the cause. I have tryed to adjust the pressure plate some, but no difference. Have the pedal adjusted with 1" play.
Could it be a bad pilot bearing? Any help would be great. Thanks oldiron29

Not saying it's the same, but mine was chattering last summer, although now that I'm thinking about it, stepping on the clutch may have made it go away. Anyways, I had one of the springs on one of the fingers become unseated. It was a bear to get it reseated, but since I've had a quiet clutch.

See if putting the pto in gear stops it. I had acting very similar, until I looked back and noticed the edges of the pto pulley were a blur. The pto pilot bushing had worn out and the pto and transmission shaft were running steel on steel.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
